September 8, 2021 – Fall Rowing on the Water

A special thank you to our summer staff who have now returned to school. Rowing members are invited to row at the 5:30 (arrive at 5:15) or 7:00am rows using the buddy system. Rowers must take a life jacket, bailer bucket and ample lights for the first row. Please continue to sign on up on the shared spreadsheet to reserve a boat and complete the Covid-19 health assessment.

July 25, 2021 – Member Appreciation Day

Thank you to all those that could be present at our Member Appreciation Day. A number of members received recognition from Row Ontario and The Barrie Rowing Club. Our congratulations and gratitude  go out to all our recognized members for their many years of service and contributions to the barrie Rowing Club. Nine members received recognition for Long Service Awards (15-30 years). We appreciate the efforts of all members and volunteers (current and past) who contribute to the Barrie Rowing Club and the sport of rowing in our community.

July 21, 2021 – Rowing Tours

Did you know that the Ontario Adventure Rowing (OAR) Association organizes rowing and biking tours around Ontario?  Check out the touring schedule.

The Barrie Rowing Club is a member of Outdoor Adventure Rowing (OAR) and by association, so are Barrie Rowing Club members.  This is a wonderful way to discover new waterways and meet new rowers. If you would like to know more about touring, please talk to Elaine.

July 16 – Volunteer Hours

Looking for Volunteer Hours? Check out this list of activities that you can help with throughout the season to work off your volunteer hours.

July 13, 2021 – For Private Shell Owners

One of the key considerations from Row Ontario is: Any individual that chooses to row outside of sanctioned club activities does so at their own risk. They will not have coverage provided by RCA insurance.

We understand that private shell owners at the Barrie Rowing Club are eager to use their boats throughout the day while following the current Covid-19 guidelines. Though at this time, we ask all members to continue to use the schedule/spreadsheet to reserve their space for rowing as part of club designated times with safety/coach boats on the water.

July 8, 2021

The Barrie Rowing Club is following the direction of the Rowing Canada Updates , Row Ontario, the province of Ontario and the Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit to ensure all members and our community continue to be as active and healthy as possible during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Key Points from Rowing Canada Updates for BRC Members:

–> On-water rowing activity for club programs for experienced and new rowers in 1X, 2X/-, 4X/4+/4- and 8+ is considered sanctioned activity by RCA.

–> Event sanction will be granted for outdoor events delivered July 23 and onwards where local and provincial restrictions allow. Please see here for details and expectations.

June 25, 2021

The Ontario Government announced that the Province would move into Step 2 of the Roadmap to Reopen plan on Wednesday June 30. For the Barrie Rowing Club this means rowers can resume the use of crew boats and larger group sizes. Subsequently, starting Wednesday doubles/pairs and quads and coxed fours will be permitted. We have opened up additional slots each day on the shared schedule/spreadsheet so more people can row and we are permitting 3 reserved rows and 3 standby rows per member.

Starting July 5 evening sessions will be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30-6:30.  Please sign up on the schedule/spreadsheet.

Please welcome back Kiernan who has returned to the club as a coach for the season. He is available to help with your technique and/or suggest workout programs.

Please remember, although things are opening up we are still operating under BRC Covid-19 Protocols which includes daily screening, activity tracking, cleaning and disinfecting boats and oars, the wearing of masks, and limits on gatherings. See you on the water!

May 31, 2021

Welcome to Charlie our new summer Program Leader at the BRC! Charlie will be driving the coach boat for the morning rows. Please help out and ensure the bay doors are closed when heading out to row. In order to continue to follow Province’s Stay at Home Order and the Ontario’s Covid-19 Road Map to Reopening while keeping the numbers of people at the boat house at 5 people or less members are asked to schedule a space to row on the sign out sheet. ‘Stand by’ fields have been added to the sign out spreadsheet for those days that have open spaces on the schedule. Members can add their name to 2 rowing sessions and 2 stand by sessions a week. Cold water rules still apply if there is no coach boat available.

May 21, 2021

Club opens with ‘limited-use’ for 5 rowers at one session. Only singles are permitted. Doubles are only permitted with household members (in addition to direct household members caregivers or an individual who lives alone can join one household group). No coach boat available for the week of May 23-May 28, 2021. See Covid-19 webpage for further details.
